Who were the natives of Puerto Rico?

The original and indigenous people of Puerto Rico are the Taíno people. They are an Arawakan-speaking people who migrated from South America to the Caribbean in the 7th century. The Taíno were the dominant culture in Puerto Rico when Christopher Columbus arrived in 1493.
