Did the Cayman Islands begin as volcanoes?

The Cayman Islands were formed by the tectonic collision of the Caribbean Plate and the North American Plate. This collision caused the formation of the Cayman Trench, a deep underwater canyon. The islands are the exposed peaks of a submarine mountain range called the Cayman Ridge. The Cayman Islands are not volcanic in origin.
