Oceans Bordering Costa Rica: Pacific & Caribbean

Costa Rica has coastlines on two major bodies of water:

• Pacific Ocean – To the west/southwest; longer coastline, famous for surfing, sport fishing, and marine parks.
• Caribbean Sea – To the east/northeast; calmer waters, coral reefs, Afro‑Caribbean culture.

Together they provide diverse marine experiences within a few hours’ travel of each other.
