Delta Airlines Carry-On Rules

Delta Air Lines is an Atlanta-based airline that offers connections between more than 350 global destinations in more than 70 countries. It is important to know the rules for carry-on baggage, because Delta charges a fee for checked baggage. Every passenger is allowed one free carry-on bag and one personal item on board the aircraft. The carry-on baggage rules are the same whether you are flying domestically or internationally.
  1. Carry-on Baggage Size

    • Your carry-on baggage must fit in the overhead bin. Measure the length, width and height of your bag and add the total linear inches. This total should not exceed 45 inches. You can verify the size at the check-in counter and at the gate by using the carry-on baggage check, which is approximately 22 inches by 14 inches by 9 inches.

    One Personal Item

    • You are allowed one personal item, such as a laptop computer, purse, briefcase, camera bag, diaper bag or any other item that is similar in size to the aforementioned items.

    Additional Carry-on Items

    • In addition to your carry-on and personal items, you are allowed to carry the following items on board the aircraft: a jacket, umbrella, child stroller, child restraint seat, wheelchair, crutches and other such special needs requirements. You are also allowed to carry any duty-free items, and any food and drink items purchased after security check.

    Security Guidelines

    • Be careful to follow these guidelines for a hassle-free check-in:

Buy travel size bottles that do not exceed 1 oz. in size. Place all of these items together in a one-quart clear Ziploc bag.

Do not carry sharp items, such as pocketknives and scissors, or lithium batteries in your carry-on.
