Prohibited items are items that are not allowed to be stowed in the cabin of the Alaska Airlines plane in passenger carry-on luggage. Some of the prohibited items are more than 3.4 oz. of alcohol, explosives, which include fireworks, household cleaning agents in any amount, personal air purifiers, pressurized containers, such as butane fuel or self-inflating rafts, any sort of weapons or sharp objects and liquids, gels or aerosols that exceed 3.4 oz. that are not purchased beyond security checkpoints. While wet ice is prohibited from being carried onto the plane, dry ice will be allowed if the packaging allows the escape of carbon dioxide fumes and the amount is less than 5.5 lbs. "Carbon Dioxide, solid" or "dry ice" must be stamped on the package. Trophies from animals, such as antlers, are allowed as carry-on items if the trophy does not contain raw meat or body parts from the animal and is small enough to be stowed overhead.
Maximum height for carry-on bags is 10", maximum length for carry-on bags is 24" and maximum width for carry-on bags is 17". This includes handles, wheels and straps. Any bag larger than this must be checked. Passengers are limited to one carry on per passenger. Weight should not exceed 35 lbs. If the weight does exceed this limit, passengers can be charged an excess fee or forced to check their carry on due to weight concerns with the overhead storage compartments.
There are several exceptions to Alaska Airlines carry-on rules. Purses, laptops, coats, umbrellas, hats, pillows, up to two books, service animals, children's car seats and strollers, and items needed for mobility, such as wheelchairs or canes are not counted toward the carry-on limit. Pets in carriers count toward the passenger's carry-on limit, but passengers may contest this if it is necessary for them to have a carry-on as well as the pet. Oversized purses and bags that do not fit beneath the seat in front of the passenger will be counted as the carry-on and all other baggage will be checked at the passenger's expense.
