Airlines Rules & Restrictions

Airlines have rules and restrictions you must follow when flying. Each airline has their own specific rules, but restrictions come from the Transportation Security Administration. Bear in mind, each country you visit, has different rules, so check with your airline before you leave.
  1. Banned Items

    • Matches and other flammable items are not allowed in carry-on baggage.

Airlines will not allow certain items into your carry-on baggage, and some you can't pack at all. Banned items including matches, flammable items such as cooking oil or lighter fluid, and poisons like weed killers cannot enter the plane.

    Checked Bags

    • Sporting goods like hockey sticks are allowed in checked baggage.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, you may place certain items into your checked baggage. Items including sporting goods such as bats and hockey sticks, knives, swords and box cutters, firearms, including replicas and ammunition, and tools all must be packed into checked baggage.

    Carry-On Baggage

    • Place credit cards and money into your carry-on baggage.

Items you can pack into carry-on luggage include money and credit cards, all forms of jewelery, electronics such as laptops and cell phones, medications, documentation and eyewear.

    Other Restrictions

    • Liquids, gels and aerosols must be kept in clear, plastic bags.

Place all liquids, gels and aerosols in clear plastic bags; each bottle cannot exceed 3.4 fluid ounces and all items must fit into a one-quart bag. You can't bring snow globes aboard in carry-on baggage, and gel or drink containers may not pass through security unless they are part of the exemption list.
