  1. Domestic Flights

    • For domestic flights you are allowed to carry on one bag for free. However, all customers will have to pay $20.00 each way for the first checked bag and $30.00 each way for the second checked bag.

    International Flights

    • On international flights all customers are allowed one checked bag free, each additional bag is $50.00. Every passenger is allowed two carry on bags with them for free.

    Dimensions

    • The maximum size that American allows for any carry on baggage is 45 inches. While the maximum size for checked baggage is 62 inches.

    Exceptions

    • There are several exceptions for certain passengers that American allows. These would include: all active duty military personnel traveling on orders or for leisure, AA Advantage members and first as well as business class upgrades confirmed prior to check in.

    Considerations

    • The specifications of the bag are calculated based on the width, height and length. On some fights the airline can restrict the baggage requirements due to the size of the cargo doors of the plane.
