Hawaiian Airlines recommends that passengers with luggage who are flying between Hawaii and the continental United States check in 3 hours before the flight's departure time. The airline requires these passengers to check in at least 45 minutes before the departure or the bags will not be accepted.
All checked bags must be labeled with the passenger's name and contact information. The airline supplies free bag tags at the ticket counter for customers who need them.
Carry-on luggage must be small enough to fit in an overhead bin or under an airline seat. For most flights, the size equals 45 inches when the height, width and length are added together. If a suitcase is too large, it will be taken off the plane and treated as checked baggage. Checked baggage must be less than 62 inches when the bag's height, length and weight are added together and must not be heavier than 50 lbs. Bags that exceed these limits will be charged an excess luggage fee. Hawaiian Airlines does not accept bags that weigh more than 70 pounds or those that are larger than 80 inches.
Hawaiian Airlines baggage fees rank with those of the largest US carriers. Passengers flying Hawaiian Airlines between Hawaii and the United States are charged $20 for first checked bag and $30 for a second checked bag. Passengers who check in and pay their baggage fees online get a $5 per bag discount. Passengers flying between the islands are charged $10 per bag for the first bag and $17 for a second bag.
Claims for damaged baggage must be made in writing when the bags are delivered. Hawaiian Airlines will not accept any claims made at a later time.
