Each passenger is allowed one item of carry-on luggage, free of charge. For flights to the United States, Grenada and the UK, the item must weigh 5 kg (11 lb) or less; for all other destinations, the item may weigh up to 10 kg (22 lb). Club Class passengers may carry baggage to all destinations weighing up to 15 kg (33 lb). Any baggage exceeding weight specifications must be checked.
Passengers must carry all fragile, valuable, or perishable items (such as medication, electronics, documents, and jewelry) in carry-on luggage. Each passenger may carry, in addition to the carry-on allowance, camera and laptop bags, purses, as well as diaper bags when travelling with a child.
Air Transat passengers may check without charge any number of bags as long as the overall weight is below the specified limit. Weight limits vary based on destination, ranging from 20 kg (44 lb) to the United States and the UK to 50 kg (110 lb) to Haiti and Portugal. Club Class passengers have a weight allowance of 40 kg (88 lb) to all destinations, except 50 kg (110 lb) to Haiti and Portugal. In addition, each piece of luggage must have an overall measurement (length plus width plus height) of less than 62 in (158 cm) and weigh less than 32 kg (70 lb).
Baggage exceeding free luggage weight specifications will be charged excess bag fees. These fees are: $12 per kilogram (one way) for flights to/from south destinations and $15 per kilogram (one way) for European destinations. The maximum excess baggage allowance is 32 kg (70 lb.) per item. Fees are paid at the Air Transat check-in counter.
In addition to the free baggage allowance, Air Transat passengers are also allowed to check one piece of sporting equipment, weighing up to 20 kg (44 lb), free of charge. The overall weight must still be below the free baggage weigh allowance. Specific types of sporting equipment allowed include camping, snorkeling and golfing equipment. Certain types of medical equipment--including CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machines and oxygen travel kits--and child equipment such as strollers are also allowed free of charge.
According to Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), the maximum quantity of liquids, gels and aerosols permitted in carry-on baggage is 100ml/100g (3.4 oz.) per container. Any items greater than this must be checked. Liquids must be placed in one clear, closed and re-sealable plastic bag no larger than one quart. Each passenger is allowed one such bag, which must be removed from luggage and screened separately by airport security.
Some items may be exempt, such as baby formula and milk, as well as most and essential prescription and non-prescription medication.
