Bags up to 50 lbs incur no extra charge, but bags between 50 and 100 lbs have an additional $50 fee. Bags over 100 lbs must be shipped as air cargo. All checked bags have a maximum size of 62 inches, meaning the length, width and height of each bag cannot add up to more than that.

Carry on bags must be no larger than 10 inches long, by 16 inches wide by 24 inches high. Outer garments and assistive devices, such as crutches or canes, do not count as personal items.

Passengers can transport alcohol in either their carry on or checked baggage, as long as it is in the original, unopened container, and only up to five liters per person. Alcohol in checked baggage must be transported in leak-proof bags, which can be purchased at the Southwest counter at $5 per bag. All alcohol cannot exceed more than 70 percent alcohol by volume.
