Southwest is the most popular domestic airline within the United States, and promotes its offer of "bags fly free." Southwest does not charge for the first or second checked bag. In addition, Southwest does not charge for up to two carry-on bags, one bag and one personal-type item. While there are no baggage fees, standard weight and size limits do apply. Bags must have a maximum weight of 50 pounds and maximum size of 62 inches (sum of width, height, and depth), per bag. Overweight and oversized bags will only be accepted for a charge of $50 per bag.
JetBlue, while not totally free, does offer some free baggage options for domestic flights. JetBlue baggage policy includes one checked bag free of charge. A second checked bag is allowed for a fee of $30 and a third bag for $75. All checked bags cannot exceed 50 pounds and must not exceed 62 inches (sum of width, depth, and height). JetBlue does not charge for up to two carry-on bags, including one regular bag and one personal item. Additional fees will be applied for overweight and oversized bags.
Many international airlines, including American Airlines, Indian Airlines, and Air France allow up to two free checked bags for most of their international flights. American Airlines offers three free checked bags for First and Business Class customers. All bags must be 23 kilograms or 50 pounds, and must not be bigger than 62 inches (sum of width, depth, and height). All airlines charge for overweight and/or oversized bags. In addition, all three airlines also allow up to two carry-on bags free of charge.
