Spirit Airlines does not allow you to check any bags at no cost. Your first and second checked bags each cost $15 on domestic flights and $20 on international flights if you are a member of the $9 Fare Club. If you are not a member of the $9 Fare Club, expect to pay $25 on domestic and $30 on international flights. For each additional checked bag, as a member you pay $75 on domestic and $80 on international flights. If you are a non-member the fee for each additional bag is $85 domestic and $90 international. Your checked bags must not exceed 50 pounds and 62 inches, width x height x length, or additional fees apply. Bags weighing 51 to 70 pounds cost an additional $50 and bags 72 to 99 pounds cost an extra $100. Bags 62 to 79 inches cost $100 to check and bags 80 inches plus cost an additional $150 to check. If your travel dates fall between November 1 and January 1 you will pay additional fees per checked bag.
As of April 6, 2010 Spirit Airlines began charging for carry-on items in addition to checked items. You are allowed to bring one carry-on item, which costs $20 per flight if you are a $9 Fare Club member, $30 if you are not a member, and $45 if you wait to pay for your carry-on item at the gate rather than online prior to departure. Carry-ons must fit into the overhead bins provided on Spirit Airlines and cannot exceed 22 inches by 18 inches by 10 inches. You are also permitted one personal item in addition to your carry-on item at no cost. Personal items include handbags, diaper bags and laptop cases.
While Spirit Airlines charges you for virtually everything you pack, certain items are exempt from fees. If you are traveling with a ticketed child who has a separate paid-for plane seat, you may bring a car seat aboard your flight in addition to your carry-on and personal item. Strollers, camera bags and outerwear such as coats or wraps may also be brought onto your flight at no cost. Snacks and beverages purchased inside the airport terminal are permitted on board Spirit Aircrafts.
