American Airlines passengers are limited to one carry-on bag and one personal item per person. The length, width, and height of the carry on bag needs to have a combined overall dimension of less than 45 inches. The personal item must have combined measurements less than 36 inches, and fit under the airplane seat.
Baggage must be checked in the same day as the flight. Each bag must have the passenger's name and address on the outside. Baggage may not be locked so the Transportation Security Administration can inspect the baggage.
Transportation of certain types of animals is allowable with proper documentation. A dog or cat is required to have a health certificate signed by a veterinarian less than 10 days from the travel date and proof of rabies shots.
