Baggage Regulations for American Airlines

American Airlines flights typically allow passengers to bring one carry-on bag and one checked bag for no additional charge. Specific conditions vary according to your flight's origin and destination, along with your membership status in American's AAdvantage club.
  1. Carry-On Baggage

    • Passengers may bring one carry-on bag weighing 40 pounds or less on its domestic and international flights. Carry-ons must be no larger than 45 inches long, 14 inches wide and nine inches high.

    Checked Baggage

    • Passengers flying to or from Europe or India may check one bag at no charge and those flying to or from Asia or Brazil may check two bags. First-class and business class passengers may check up to three bags at no additional charge. All baggage must weigh 50 pounds or less to avoid overweight charges.

    AAdvantage Club

    • American waives bag-checking charges and expedites baggage unloading for Platinum and Executive Platinum members of its AAdvantage club. AAirpass holders and Oneworld's Emerald and Sapphire members also receive preferential baggage service.
