Air India permits passengers to carry one bag that cannot exceed 55 centimeters by 40 centimeters by 20 centimeters in total size and eight kilograms in weight. In addition, you are permitted the following personal items: handbag, laptop, cell phone, overcoat or wrap, rug or blanket, camera or binoculars, reading material, baby food, infant bottle, a gift from the duty-free shop, assistive devices such as wheelchair, a folding umbrella, medicines and a shaving kit that does not include a razor blade or straight razor.
Air India prohibits certain items and will confiscate them at security checkpoints. These items include lighters, scissors, sharp objects such as box cutters, knives and ice picks, sporting equipment such as baseball bats, pool cues and ski poles, guns and firearms, tools such as axes and saws, and martial arts or self-defense items.
Air India limits passengers' checked baggage to different number of pieces and weight limits based on whether the flight is international or domestic and whether you are in first, business or economy class. For example, for domestic flights within India, in economy class, passengers are allowed no more than 25 kilograms of baggage. For flights to the rest of the world, economy passengers are allowed no more than 20 kilograms of baggage. For U.S. and Canada economy flights, passengers are allowed no more than two pieces of luggage and each bag may not exceed 107 linear centimeters. Each piece may not weigh more than 23 kilograms or 50 pounds.
Some items are not allowed either in carry-on or in checked baggage. These include lighters, firearms, gun powder, explosives, flammable items, dangerous chemicals and chlorine for pools and spas.
