Lufthansa A340 Payload Capacity

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the payload capacity of a plane is the maximum permissible weight on the aircraft after taking into account various other factors such the weight of the cabin crew, fuel and food/equipment. The Lufthansa A340 comes in two different versions, both of which feature different payload capacities: the Lufthansa A340-300 and A340-600.
  1. Lufthansa A340-300

    • Lufthansa's A340-300 is the older and smaller version of A340 class of airplanes. According to Lufthansa, it has room for up to 221 passengers. The maximum takeoff weight for this aircraft is 271,000 kg, or 597,452 lb, and the maximum landing weight is 190,000 kg, or 418,878 lb.

    Lufthansa A340-600

    • Lufthansa's A340-600 is the longer and newer version in the A340 class. According to Lufthansa, it is the world's third largest aircraft, with room for up to 306 passengers. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 368,000 kg, or 811,301 lb, and a maximum landing weight of 259,000 kg, or 570,997 lb.

    Additional Information

    • The Lufthansa A340-300 is a heavy aircraft -- during the design process, it was given an additional landing gear under the center fuselage since the two rear landing gears were not enough to support the plane's maximum capacity weight.
