Business class passengers can check in an unlimited number of pieces of hold baggage as long as their total weight does not exceed 30 kilograms. Passengers who have paid any of the following fare categories, including Economy Flexible, Economy Extra and Regional Y Class Economy, can check in unlimited pieces of baggage up to a maximum weight of 20 kilograms. Economy passengers can check in one piece of baggage, weighing no more than 20 kilograms. Bmi Gold, Silver and Diamond Club members can carry an additional 20 kilograms. This extra allowance also applies to Star Alliance Gold Club members.The infant allowance is one piece of baggage with a maximum weight of 10 kilograms plus a stroller, which must be fully collapsible.

Business class passengers are allowed two pieces of walk-on baggage along with one personal item. Economy class passengers can carry one piece of walk-on baggage plus one personal item. Walk-on baggage must be no more than 55 centimeters long, 40 centimeters wide and 23 centimeters deep. Examples of personal items include a small purse, small briefcase, a laptop or a baby changing bag. On its website, the airline says these items are carried at its discretion and passengers must be able to lift their cabin bag into the overhead locker unaided.
Bmi also operates a low cost airline called bmi baby, which provides internal UK flights as well as flights between UK airports and European destinations. A fee is charged for hold baggage of £12.99 ($19.98) per 18 kilograms over a maximum of five pieces. However, people traveling in a group are permitted to "pool" their allowance as long as the total is no more than the original amount of checked baggage paid for. Infants under the age of two are allowed five kilograms of checked baggage and a pram or buggy will be carried free of charge.
