Carry-On Restrictions on Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines has restrictions for all carry-on baggage for its flights. Carry-on bags must not exceed 45 linear inches in combined length, width and height. Bags also must fit easily into the Carry-On Baggage Check, which is located near the check-in counter and the boarding gate.
  1. Personal Care Item Restrictions

    • Items not meeting the guidelines will not be permitted on the plane.

      Delta Airlines will allow personal care items, such as cologne and hairspray, as long as they are less than 16-ounces per item and no more than 70-ounces total without prior approval. Butane curling irons are allowed at the rate of one per passenger or crew member, no refills are permitted and the unit may not be used on the plane at any time.

    Hazardous Item Restrictions

    • Air conditioners are not permitted as carry-on or checked baggage because of the refrigerant they use.

      Delta Airlines does not allow infectious substances, poisons and radioactive materials. Battery-operated underwater lamps and soldering irons 7 inches or smaller in length are allowed in carry-on baggage only. Mercury barometers or thermometers are permitted only for representatives of government weather bureaus or similar agencies in carry-on bags only.

    Weapons Restrictions

    • It is not permitted for more than one passenger to combine quantities of ammunition in one container.

      Delta Airlines allows small arms ammunition in quantities not exceeding 11 pounds per person but must be in checked baggage only. Firearms are permitted as checked baggage only in locked secure cases. Gun powder, mace and pepper spray are never allowed in carry-on or checked baggage.
