Where Are the Aleutian Islands Located?

The Aleutian Islands form a volcanic archipelago stretching approximately 3,400 km (2,100 miles) westward and southwest from the Alaska Peninsula. They curve along the continental shelf break, separating the Bering Sea to the north from the North Pacific Ocean to the south. The chain includes over 300 islands, most part of the U.S. state of Alaska, with the westernmost (the Commander Islands) belonging to Russia. The Aleutians are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, with numerous active volcanoes.
