What is Trinidad and Tobago National Emblems?

National Flag: The national flag of Trinidad and Tobago consists of a red field with a white centred black diagonal band which is bordered with a narrow white stripe. The red colour represents ardour, courage, and strength; the white colour represents holiness, purity, and innocence; the black colour represents richness of the soil, unity, and determination; and the narrow white stripes at the top and bottom represent the sea.

National Coat of Arms: The national coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago consists of a centre shield divided in two sections by a diagonal wavy line, with two ships sailing upon the water. The top half has a red background with three ships representing Columbus's arrival in 1498, while the lower half has a black background with a golden sun rising over the sea. The shield is supported by two Scarlet Ibises, Trinidad and Tobago's national bird, and crested by a helmet ornamented with a plume of nine green plumes, representing the country’s nine administrative districts. The scroll below bears the country's motto: "Together We Aspire, Together We Achieve".

National Anthem: The national anthem of Trinidad and Tobago is titled "Forged from the Love of Liberty". The anthem was composed in 1962 and was adopted in 1974. The lyrics were written by Patrick Castagne whilst melody was composed by Winifred Atwell. The anthem reflects on the nation’s history, resilience, achievements, and aspirations for a bright future.

National Flower: The national flower of Trinidad and Tobago is the Chaconia (Warscewiczia coccinea). The Chaconia is a member of the family Rubiaceae and is found throughout the country. It is a shrub with bright red flower heads that bloom from July to December. The Chaconia was declared the national flower in 1962.

National Bird: The national bird of Trinidad and Tobago is the Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber). The Scarlet Ibis is a large wading bird with striking red plumage. It is found in large numbers in the swamps and mangroves of Trinidad and Tobago. The Scarlet Ibis was declared the national bird in 1966.

National Animal: The national animal of Trinidad and Tobago is the Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis). The Ocelot is a medium-sized wild cat with a spotted coat. It is found in the forests of Trinidad and Tobago. The Ocelot was declared the national animal in 1986.

National Dish: The national dish of Trinidad and Tobago is Callaloo. Callaloo is a soup made with dasheen bush (taro leaves), vegetables, meat and/or fish. It is often served with roti (flatbread) or rice.
