Why are Peruvians offended when asked if they have a Llama?

It's not offensive for Peruvians to be asked if they have a llama. In fact, many Peruvians are proud of their country's llama population and consider it a symbol of national identity. Llamas are native to South America and have been a part of Peruvian culture for thousands of years. They are used as pack animals, for meat, and for their wool. So while it may seem like a silly question, asking a Peruvian if they have a llama is actually a way to show interest in their culture and heritage.
