Tourism in Montserrat Caribbean Islands

Montserrat is a tiny island found in the Caribbean Sea. Located about 50 miles southwest of Antigua and southeast of Puerto Rico, this island has several volcanic mountains offering amazing natural sights.

    • Montserrat weather includes a wetter season beginning in July that continues to November. Standard temperatures are 76 to 88 degrees F and annual rainfall is 50 to 80 inches.

    • The natural water supplied by the taps in Montserrat is safe to consume. It is one of the purest forms of water found anywhere around the globe. Bottled water is also available.

    • Tourists come to Montserrat for the many different types of activities offered. This includes volcano, wildlife, diving, snorkeling, fishing and beach adventures.

    History

    • One popular place of interest on Montserrat is the remains of the capital city Plymouth, which is known as the "modern-day Pompeii." A volcanoes eruption caused its abandonment in 1997.

    Warning

    • Montserrat has a large area known as the Exclusion Zone, which is unsafe and illegal to enter. This is because of the eruption of the Soufriere Hills volcano. Parts of this region can be viewed from other areas of the island.
