Many of the largest airlines in the Caribbean provide both inter-Caribbean flights as well as international service to other continents. Among those include Air Jamaica, Cayman Airways, Caribbean Airlines and Cubana. Many large airlines from North America, South America and Europe provide service to the Caribbean.
Leeward Island Air Transport (LIAT) operates frequent and rapid service to many islands throughout the Caribbean region. American Eagle provides service to many Caribbean islands from its regional hub in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Other small and regional airlines operate throughout the Caribbean region, providing service to additional airports not served by larger aircraft.
A number of charter airlines operate service to, from and within the Caribbean. These airlines provide service to areas that may have gaps in service or to other far-flung tourist destinations.
As with the airline industry as a whole, the Caribbean has seen many airlines begin and cease operations over the years.
Airport hubs in the Caribbean include San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in Puerto Rico, which serves as a hub for American Eagle; Montego Bay and Kingston, Jamaica, for Air Jamaica; Grand Cayman for Cayman Airways; Piarco International Airport, in Trinidad and Tobago, for Caribbean Airlines (formerly BWIA West Indies Airways); and Antigua and Barbados for LIAT.
