How did Oliver Cromwell discover Jamaica?

Oliver Cromwell did not discover Jamaica, in fact the Spanish discovered the island in 1492; and established the capital of Santiago de la Vega a decade later. Then the English captured it in 1655, during Cromwell's time as Lord Protector.
