According to the US Department of State's 2018 International Religious Freedom Report on El Salvador, the constitution of El Salvador prohibits religious discrimination and provides for the free exercise of religion. There is no state religion, but the vast majority of the population is Roman Catholic. The government generally respects religious freedom; however, there are some ongoing issues, such as societal discrimination and violence against religious minorities, and the government's unwillingness to address these issues through legislation.
