- North America: The Sonoran Desert in the southwestern United States and the Mojave Desert in the western United States.
- South America: The Atacama Desert in Chile and Peru, which is one of the driest places on Earth.
- Africa: The Sahara Desert, the largest hot desert in the world, covering parts of northern Africa. The Namib Desert in southwestern Africa is also known for its extreme aridity.
- Asia: The Gobi Desert, located in parts of Mongolia and China. Parts of the Arabian Peninsula, such as the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter), also experience extreme dryness.
- Australia: The Outback region of Australia, which includes the Great Victoria Desert, Simpson Desert, and Great Sandy Desert.
These dry deserts are characterized by very low rainfall, high temperatures, and sparse vegetation due to the lack of moisture. They form in regions where there is little or no precipitation and the evaporation rates greatly exceed the precipitation.
