Who discovered Madeira?

The Portuguese explorers João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira are credited with discovering the Madeira Islands in the Atlantic Ocean in 1419. They are believed to have stumbled upon the islands while exploring the west coast of Africa in search of new trade routes.
