Why are Amazon River dolphins called encantado?

The Amazon River dolphins (botos, also called bufeos) received their nickname "encantado" from people believing they can shapeshift to enchant humans; some say they use seduction rather than magic. Encantado means "enchanted" in Portuguese and derives from an old European folk figure that lives in freshwater in Portugal and Spain.
