Located in the south Caribbean, Aruba is part of the Leeward Antilles Islands. Unlike many of its Caribbean neighbors, Aruba has an arid climate which all but assures visitors of year-round warm temperatures and sunny days. In December, you can expect daytime temperatures in the 80s with nighttime temperatures in the 70s. Aruba celebrates Saint Nicholas Day every December and hosts the Dande Festival towards the end of the month. This annual festival brings together traditional singers, dancers and musicians to usher in the new year. For exact dates of either festival, contact the Aruba Tourism Authority.

The largest island in the Grenadines, Carriacou is one of three islands that make up the independent nation of Granada. The island itself is only about seven miles long by two miles wide. Due to its volcanic history, the island's topography ranges from very high mountaintops to sandy beaches within that small area. You can expect temperatures in the 80s in December, with the rainy season just coming to a close. Each December, the island hosts the three-day Parang Festival. This celebrates their rich cultural history as bands compete for first prize. Audience members are encouraged to participate and there is typically much dancing and celebrating. For dates, contact the Carriacou Petite Martinique Tourism Association.

The City of Naga, on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, is another option for a December island vacation. You can expect temperatures to stay in the upper 70s to the 80s, with little rainfall during December. Naga enjoys a month-long celebration known as the Kamundagan Festival, which combines a celebration of the city's birth with the birth of Christ. Cultural shows, parades and parties are plentiful. Make sure to look for the "kiri-kiri" and "pastores" performances while you are there. For more information, please contact the Department of Tourism, Philippines.
