Small All-Inclusive Hotels in the Caribbean

All-inclusive hotels are gaining in popularity as many travelers appreciate both the convenience and the price of such establishments. Part of the general key to success in all-inclusive resorts is variety. As a result, small all-inclusive hotels tend to struggle, as they cannot sustain multiple restaurants or a large variety of activities, according to Laura Sangster, owner of Caribbean Journey. There are, however, several smaller hotels in the Caribbean that also offer competitive all-inclusive packages.
  1. The Hermitage Bay

    • The Hermitage Bay, located in Antigua, is a luxury, all-inclusive boutique resort with only 25 cottage suites, which are secluded around the island and designed to blend in with the tropical surroundings. Many of the cottages are located beach-side with verandas and open-air garden showers. According to Sangster, this is a smaller, boutique style hotel with an "understated elegance and high importance placed on the classic Caribbean views."

    Goldeneye

    • Goldeneye, situated in the tropical forest of Jamaica overlooking the Caribbean, is the famed site where Ian Fleming wrote 17 of his James Bond novels. It has five villas ranging from one to three bedrooms. The focus of the villas is to embrace the outdoors, so they have expansive windows, overhanging eaves and shutters instead of glass. All villas have optional air conditioning available. Depending on the villa, you may have an outdoor bath and shower room, a private veranda, a media playroom or an open wall to the sea. Rates include traditional Jamaican cuisine, tennis, jet skis, glass bottom boat tours, kayaking, wind surfing, snorkeling, and land and sea excursions.

    Majahuitas Resort

    • Majahuitas Resort (pronounced [ma-ha-wee-tas]) offers the experience of an eco-resort with the comfort of a luxury hotel. About a 20-minute boat ride south of Puerto Vallarta, the resort is completely solar-powered and does not have phones, Internet or electrical access in the rooms. What it does have is eight open-air casitas with wood furniture, thatch or tile roof, and native Mexican pottery. The resort offers many activities, including boat trips to Yelapa, hiking to a waterfall in the jungle, zip line tours, fishing, diving, massage, kayaking and snorkeling. Nightly fees for Majahuitas include accommodations, meals, non-motorized water sports and boat transfers to the island. Other activities, beverages and gratuity are not included.
