All Inclusive Vacations in the Caribbean

When staying at all-inclusive resorts, travelers pay one upfront price that typically covers accommodations, some activities, snacks, meals, beverages (including alcoholic drinks) and gratuities. Vacationers can focus on fun and relaxation with no need to carry any money. According to a July 2009 article in Budget Travel magazine, "summer is the season for deals at all-inclusives in the Caribbean..."
  1. For Families

    • For parents who want a vacation that gives them some time away from the kids, FDR Pebbles in Montego Bay, Jamaica, fits the bill. This moderately-priced, oceanfront resort includes the services of a "vacation nanny" in its all-inclusive rate. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, the nanny will watch the kids at the beach or pool, take them to lunch, oversee naps and even pick up after them in the room. The resort even offers a Kids Club and dinner buffet for younger children. Pre-teens and teenagers can participate in supervised activities such as fishing, bike trips, beach parties and windsurfing lessons.

The resort's junior suites are sized for families, with separate sleeping areas for kids and adults. All are ocean view or oceanfront.

    For Food Lovers

    • Named one of the top 10 best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean by ShermansTravel in March 2009, Bolongo Bay is a great value for vacationers who don't want the buffet-style dining that is common at many all-inclusive resorts. This resort in the U.S. Virgin Islands sets itself apart with its dining options, offering an a la carte restaurant service that includes filet mignon and lobster. Imported beers and most premium beverages are covered in the all-inclusive price.

Guests can choose from oceanfront hotel rooms, studios, two-bedroom condos or "value rooms" that offer greater savings. Value months at Bolongo Bay are September and October, when lower summer rates drop even further. The resort also offers a number of packages for weddings, honeymoons, family gatherings and "girlfriend getaways."

    More for Your Money

    • In May 2008, travel expert Pauline Frommer recommended the Dominican Republic for affordable all-inclusive vacations, "especially during the summertime when all Caribbean isles slash prices to lure visitors." Visitors who take Frommer's advice will find their vacation dollars stretch further at the Meliá Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana.

This luxury property includes 10 swimming pools, beaches, two spas, tennis, golf and a casino, as well as entertainment for children. Guests can choose from several types of accommodations, including deluxe junior suites, deluxe master suites and one-bedroom suites. Upgrading to the "Royal Service" program is a good deal, offering private check-in, private lounge with Internet access, room service, private restaurant and snack bar, beach concierge and dedicated butler service.
