Gulf of Mexico

• Deep water (max ~12,000 ft), open-ocean circulation, higher salinity.
• Drives regional climate, hurricane genesis, and offshore oil/gas production.

Think of the bay as a semi-enclosed coastal lagoon; the Gulf is the open sea it opens into.
