The most populated state in India is Uttar Pradesh. The state capital is Lucknow and other major cities include Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Allahabad, Gorakhpur and Meerut. Uttar Pradesh has a diverse population with a mix of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains. The state is known for its rich cultural heritage and is home to many historical monuments, pilgrimage sites and tourist destinations.
