Cuba is the Caribbean island nation whose capital is Havana (La Habana). Located 150 km south of Key West, Florida, and north of Jamaica, it is the largest Caribbean island (109,884 km²). Havana, on the northwest coast, is the political, economic, and cultural heart—famed for colonial architecture, vintage cars, music, and the Malecón seawall. Cuba has been a socialist state since 1959; US embargo since 1960 shapes its economy.
