How big is the favelas in Rio de Janeiro?

There are more than 1,000 favelas in Rio de Janeiro, housing approximately 2-2.5 million people —about a quarter of the total population .

The Rocinha favela in Rio is considered the largest, with an estimated population of 200,000–300,000, making it more populous than most Brazilian cities outside of metropolitan areas. The second largest is Complexo de Alemão—composed of 13 slums—with at least 150,000-300,000 inhabitants.
