Dominican Republic is a representative democracy. The government consists of the President, which is the head of state, the Senate, National District Senate, and National District Chamber of Deputies, which are the national legislative structures, and the Supreme Court of Justice, which is the highest Court of the country. The President is elected for a four-year term by direct popular vote. The Senate is composed of 32 members, elected by direct popular vote for a four-year term. The National District Senate has one member, elected by direct popular vote for a four-year term. The National District Chamber of Deputies has 19 members, elected by direct popular vote for a four-year term. The Supreme Court of Justice is composed of 16 judges, elected by the National Congress for a six-year term.
