Why did some citizens of the US wanted to annex Texas?

Manifest Destiny and Economic Interests

- Expansion and Manifest Destiny: Many Americans embraced Manifest Destiny, the belief that the US had the innate right to extend its political, economic, and social interests throughout the North American continent from coast to coast.

- Economic Opportunities: Texan land was ideal for agricultural production, particularly the cultivation of profitable cash crops like cotton. Southern plantation owners who already used enslaved labor saw Texas as a valuable opportunity to establish new plantations. Furthermore, Texan annexation meant gaining control of lucrative trade routes that passed through Texan territory into Mexico as well.
