Why do Colorado and Wyoming have almost straight borders?

The borders between Colorado and Wyoming are straight because they were surveyed along the meridians and parallels of latitude. The United States Public Land Survey System, established in 1785, created a system of rectangular land divisions based on these lines of latitude and longitude. This system was used to survey and divide the land in the western United States, including Colorado and Wyoming, resulting in the straight borders between these states.
