Many skiing and snowboarding resort of international fame can be found throughout several towns in the Swiss Alps.
* Palm trees: Palm trees are not native to Switzerland, but can be found in some areas, particularly along the shores of its main lakes: lakes Geneva, Maggiore and Lugano. The climate of Switzerland is predominantly temperate, with warm summers and cold winters, and some areas along these lakes offer a mild enough climate to support the growth of palm trees. As such, they serve as a reminder that the Mediterranean Sea is in fact not so far from these areas, and a symbol of the diverse natural landscapes found within the country.
