Which Canadian Province Sees Sunrise First?

Newfoundland and Labrador—specifically its easternmost point, Cape Spear (52°37′W)—experiences Canada's first sunrise each day.

Due to the Earth's rotation, sunrise progresses westward. Newfoundland is in the Newfoundland Time Zone (UTC−3:30), 30 minutes ahead of Atlantic Time. Its eastern longitude means dawn arrives there before anywhere else in Canada.

Seasonal variation: In summer, the north (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut) has earlier sunrise due to polar day geometry—but Newfoundland still leads for "first light" at equinoxes and winter. At summer solstice, Alert, Nunavut (82.5°N) has 24-hour sun; "first sunrise" becomes meaningless.

Practically: if you want to be the first Canadian to see the sun on a typical day, stand at Cape Spear. The Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site markets this explicitly.
