The 1950s cemented Soviet control over Eastern Europe via communist satellite regimes. Key developments:

• Berlin Blockade (1948–49) – Failed Soviet attempt to starve West Berlin; lifted after Western airlift.
• Hungarian Revolution (1956) – Popular anti-Soviet uprising crushed by Warsaw Pact tanks; thousands killed.
• Prague Spring (1968) – Later, but roots in 1950s de-Stalinization; reform movement invaded by USSR.
