Alexander the Great's Easternmost Founded Cities

Alexander's farthest eastern foundations were in Central Asia:

  • Bactra (Balkh, Afghanistan): Refounded as Alexandria on the Oxus (329 BCE), ancient Bactrian capital.
  • Alexandria Eschate (Khujand, Tajikistan): "Alexandria the Farthest," founded 327 BCE on the Jaxartes (Syr Darya) River, marking his empire's northeastern limit.

These cities secured his Central Asian frontier and facilitated trade on the Silk Road precursors.
