Guatemala's White Population: Insights from the 1994 Census

According to the Guatemalan National Statistics Institute's 1994 national census, the country's total population stood at 8.3 million. Of these, 205,300 individuals—approximately 2.5%—identified as white. This demographic snapshot reflects the complex ethnic composition of Guatemala, where the majority of the population is Indigenous (primarily Maya) or mestizo (mixed Indigenous and European ancestry). The white minority largely descends from Spanish colonists and later European immigrants. While more recent census data may show shifts due to migration and changing self-identification, the 1994 figures remain a key reference point for understanding Guatemala's racial and ethnic landscape.
