No company in New Mexico—or anywhere—provides "free energy." The laws of thermodynamics dictate that energy cannot be created from nothing; it can only be converted from one form to another (solar to electrical, chemical to thermal, etc.). All energy production requires an input: sunlight, wind, fossil fuels, nuclear reactions, or geothermal heat. While renewable energy (solar, wind) has low marginal cost after installation, upfront capital, maintenance, and grid integration costs remain. Programs like net metering or community solar can reduce bills, but energy is never truly free.
