Belgium's Path to Independence: The 1830 Belgian Revolution, Not the Sri Lankan Model

Belgium did not follow a "Sri Lankan path" (peaceful decolonization from Britain). Instead, Belgium seceded from the United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1830 via the Belgian Revolution—a brief armed uprising backed by France and recognized by the Great Powers in the 1831 Treaty of London, installing Leopold I as king.

Sri Lanka (Ceylon) gained independence from Britain in 1948 through constitutional negotiation—a fundamentally different historical trajectory.
