Languages Spoken in Wales

Wales, a constituent country of the United Kingdom, has two official languages: Welsh and English.

• Welsh (Cymraeg) is a Celtic language spoken by about 5% of the population, with strongholds in the north and west.
• English is the dominant language, used by the vast majority in daily life, business, and government.

Both languages enjoy equal legal status, and bilingual signage is common throughout the country.
