What best describes the effect of Europe on Aboriginal people?

The effect of European settlement on Aboriginal people was devastating. In Australia, for example, the Aboriginal population declined by around 50% in the first 100 years of European occupation. Similarly, the populations of the Inuit in Canada and Alaska, and the Sioux in North America, also declined precipitously due to disease, dispossession and violence of various sorts.
