Rhineland (_Rheinland_), historic region centered on Germany’s Rhine River between Bingen and Bonn. Part of ancient Germania Magna that the Romans conquered and organized during the 1st century bce with Colonia (now Cologne) as their chief stronghold north of the Alps.
