Slovenia's Government: Parliamentary Republic
Slovenia is neither a monarchy nor a dictatorship. It is a parliamentary republic with:
- President (head of state) – directly elected, largely ceremonial (5-year term).
- Prime Minister (head of government) – leader of the majority coalition in the National Assembly.
- Bicameral Parliament: National Assembly (90 deputies) + National Council (40 representatives of social/economic groups).
Since independence (1991), Slovenia has held regular free elections, maintained democratic institutions, and joined the EU (2004) and NATO (2004).
