From whom did Italy gain independence?

Italy was unified into a sovereign state when a coalition led by the Kingdom of Sardinia defeated Austria in the Second Italian War of Independence in 1859. This victory also gained Lombardy (apart from Mantua) from Austria. Giuseppe Garibaldi led an expedition of a thousand volunteers with an aim of uniting southern Italy with the Kingdom of Sardinia and successfully conquered the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in 1860–61. On March 17, 1861, the first Italian Parliament declared Rome to be the capital of the Kingdom of Italy; however, Rome could not be acquired until later when French troops protecting it were withdrawn upon their defeat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Italy thus officially achieved a complete unification when Rome was eventually annexed on September 20, 1870. Hence, Italy gained independence from Austria.
